The Executive Director of the Uganda communication commission (UCC) George William Nyombi Thembo has cautioned online media to avoid blackmail in the course of their work.
He disclosed this in the ongoing engagement with online media at UCC headquarters in Bugolobi saying that the new media termed as online has been used to promote hate speech, blackmail and character assassination of various people yet this shouldn’t be the case.
Nyombi Thembo also pointed out political scenarios where online media publishes issues which clearly indicate that they have been hired or paid to promote negative information against another political party which is wrong.
He has called for professionalism in this media that demands objectivity, balanced and independent will while publishing their work.
Nyombi also disclosed that they are yet to come up with regulations that guide online operators on what procedures they have to follow as they are doing their work.
