The High Court in Kampala has dismissed the case in which former Managing Director of National Social Security Fund Richard Byarugaba was challenging the decision of not renewing his contract.
Judge Musa Ssekaana dismissed the case saying that decision by the Labour and Gender Minister Betty Among to reject Byarugaba’s appointment was within the law.
In August 2023, Byarugaba dragged Attorney General and the Gender and Labour Minister Betty Amongi to Court, seeking court orders compelling the Minister to fulfill her statutory duties and approve his reappointment as the NSSF Managing Director as recommended by the Board and required by the law.
Byarugaba also went on to say that Patrick Ayota his successor was not fit to head NSSF.
However in response Ayota informed Court that his appointment was done lawfully, is valid
In his ruling Justice Musa Sekaana exonerated Ayota and minister Amongi saying she acted lawfully in exercising her discretionary powers vested in her by the NSSF Act
