President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni also Commander in Chief (CiC) has promoted Maj. Gen. Sam Kavuma to Lt. General and appointed him ATMIS Force Commander, in Somalia.

Sam Kavuma replaces Lt Gen Sam Okiding who was last week appointed Deputy Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) now under General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

This was revealed by Col. Deo Akiiki, the Deputy Defence Spokesperson today, 25th March, 2024 in an X Message.

“Hongera Sana Generali Sam Kavuma. Having been appointed deputy CDF, Lt Gen Sam Okiding is replaced by Gen Sam Kavuma in Somalia as Force Commander ATMIS,” Akiiki posted.

Last week, President Museveni appointed General Muhoozi Kainerugaba Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) replacing Gen. Mbadi Mbusa who was transferred to serve as State Minister of Trade, Industry and cooperatives in charge of trade.

General Muhoozi had been Senior Presidential Advisor in charge of Special Operations.

Museveni also appointed Lt Gen Sam Okiding as the Deputy CDF, replacing Gen Peter Elwelu who was appointed a presidential advisor.

Museveni also promoted UPDF Chief of Staff Land Force Maj Gen Jack Agonza Bakasumba to Joint Chief of Staff. Bakasumba takes over from Major General Leopold Kyanda who will serve as a defence attache in a yet-to-be-known country.

Museveni also promoted Special Forces commander, Brigadier David Mugisha to the rank of Major General.

The Special Forces Command Force commander, Col Asaph Nyakikuru was also promoted from the rank of Colonel to Brigadier.
