Aspirants in the Kayunga LCV by-elections have protested the delayed start of the nomination exercise.
The nomination of candidates contesting in local government residual and by-elections elections started on Monday in different parts of the country.
In Kayunga District, nine people have expressed interest to replace the former LCV Chairperson Ffeffeka Sserubogo who died a month after occupying office.
The nomination exercise was supposed to start at 8 am, but by 11:00 am, the exercise was yet to start despite several aspirants turning up.
Harriet Nakwede, the National Unity Platform-NUP candidate says blamed the Electoral Commission for disrupting her planned activity for the day.
Paul Bukenya, the EC Spokesperson attributed the delay to verification of the aspirants’ documents.
The nomination exercise is handled by Jennifer Kyobutungi, the Kayunga District Returning Officer.
There is also heavy security deployment at the nomination venue. Two checkpoints have been erected at the entrance of the EC offices and are being manned by both police and the army.
