Nyakinama Seed Secondary school in Kisoro District is yet to start operations due to a lack of staff. The school is among four Seed Secondary schools in the Kigezi sub-region that were constructed by the government in 2019 under the Uganda Intergovernmental Fiscal Transfer (UGIFT) Program.

The other schools are Nyamweru Seed Secondary School in Rubanda district, St. Joseph Buhara Seed Secondary School in Kabale, and Rwamucucu Seed Secondary school in Rukiga district.

The schools were handed over to district authorities by the Contractor GESES Uganda Limited on January 11.

Emmanuel Mwunvaneza, Kisoro District Education Officer says that when the contractor handed over the completed structures to district authorities, his office started receiving phone calls from parents in Nyakinama sub-county inquiring out when operations are starting since there is no other government secondary school in the area.

Mwunvaneza also says that parents are demanding the school to start operations due to the good structures and equipment it received. He however says that the school lacks teachers.

According to Mwunvaneza, they are waiting for the Ministry of Education and Sports and the Education Service Commission to conduct the recruitment of teachers.
