Three people have been arraigned before the General Court Martial and remanded to Kitalya government prison over the kidnap and murder of NRM’s Ntoroko District Chairperson Japheth Kabagambe Ahebwa.
The suspects including a native doctor and businessman, Barnabas Alleluya, Deus Ahimbisibwe, a driver, and both residents of Kyakazizi village, Kyakazizi Parish Rwanyamahembe Subcounty in Mbarara District and one Herbert Mutamba a resident of Ncucumo cell, Kitwe ward Rwentuha Town Council in Bushenyi District.
They appeared before the seven men team chaired by Lt General Andrew Gutti, who charged them with kidnap, murder, aggravated robbery and unlawful possession of ammunition and denied the said offences.
They were remanded until the 1st of September 2021, after prosecution led by Major Emmy Ekyaruhanga and Captain Ambroz Guma informed Court that investigations were still ongoing into the matter.
Prosecution states that the trio and others were still at large on the 2nd of September 2021 at around 4pm while at Fortportal Tourism City in Kabarole District they kidnapped Japheth Kabagambe Ahebwa with intentions to murder him.
The deceased’s remains were recovered in a swamp in Ibanda District after two days of missing.
It’s alleged that the victim went missing after leaving one of the ATM Machines in Fort portal and are believed to have robbed him of 400,000 shillings he had allegedly withdrawn before or after being murdered.
